What are conjugate acid base pairs?
Acids and conjugate bases are related according to the Brønsted-Lowry acid-base theory. Bronsted-lowry acids are defined as proton donors (hydrogen ions), and bases as proton acceptors. Here's how it works:

- Conjugate Acids:Â When an acid donates a proton (H+), the resulting molecule is called its conjugate base.
- Conjugate Base:Â Conversely, when a base accepts a proton (H+), the resulting molecule is called its conjugate acid.
Each acid-base pair has a unique conjugate pair.
The strength of an acid is related to the strength of its conjugate base. Strong acids, such as hydrochloric acid, tend to have weaker conjugate bases.
